I'm in the process of doing this now. This is a painfully slow process, and I must say I am disappointed. These machines are within centimeters of one another. I purchase a DS923+ with the 2TB SDD for M.2 2280 NVMe PCIe 3.0 x4. I can't see why I spent so much money for a low performing system. I expect speeds better than what I'm experiencing.

I'm just wondering about restoring the file permissions given the fact that only folders and packages were copied. Is this possible? I unfortunately can't do full system backup because I have two NAS each with an own shared folder. So, I backup the files of NAS 1 into NAS 2 and vice versa: the files of NAS 2 into NAS 1. If I do a full backup then the backups will be also copied again, which will increase the data size. I wish you could exclude folders in the full system backup, but this isn't possible at the moment.

Make the timeline view together with other functionality (people,places,tags,video default albums) available ALSO to non-admin, read-only users. Some of us don’t want to grant our users “delete” permissions …. make sense, right ? 4. For God’s sake STOP telling me where to store my photos. Just let me define my own “shared folder”. There is no reason, in 2024, you can’t index the content of a specified folder. Synology Photos has the potential to be the BEST self-hosted personal photo / video solution when you stop making stupid decisions about it. Meanwhile others are coming strong from behind (looking at you Immich / PhotoPrism and other self-hosted projects out there)

I've been using Synology Office since 2020, and am just about to dump it completely. There have been few to NO updates to it, despite that fact that basic functionality is completely missing. For example, there is no setting for specifying default unit of measure for new documents, so if you live in a country, for example, that uses Letter size paper (8.5" x 11") then EVERY SINGLE TIME you create a document, you have to change from "A4" (the default metric paper size) to "Letter". Also, no widow or orphan control. Primative header/footer capability, etc. When I bought the Synology NAS, largely for being able to "Replace your dependence on Google Docs with you own private cloud and cloud office suite," I expected that regular updates would come out and these major shortcomings would be addressed. But what seems to be a beta product is starting to feel more like and abandoned product. If you're considering buying a Synology NAS to free yourself from dependence on 3rd party cloud office suites, don't depend on Synology. They've largely ignored this product. Oh, and same goes with their Synology Notestation (compare to Apple's Notes application). HORRIBLE, first cut application that has never been improved in the least over the last 4 years. Don't make the mistake I did, and migrate all of your notes from Apple Notes to Synology Notestation. I've since gone back to Apple Notes.

I am having an issue connecting to my Synology Drive (DSM) remotely after I moved. I have a new IP address and do not know how to update any of this info and do not want to lose anything already stored on my drive. I can access the drives locally but have no way of checking anything via DSM. Can someone please help with this?
